I feel a reason why realism pokemon stories never feel real is because there's a lack of real feeling history in setting.

Like if you look at real world history, then silph co should be a survivor of the government targeting zaibatsus after the previous wars, while giovanni should be remnant of the era where entrepreneurs had to do shady shit, like
